🌍💚 We owe it to our future generations to slash greenhouse gas emissions to NET ZERO and stabilize our climate. But that’s not all—we also need to supercharge our efforts to adapt to the wild weather hitting us right now. ⛈️🔥
Today, the UK government dropped its new Climate Adaptation Research and Innovation Framework (CARIF) 📜✨—a roadmap for the research and innovation we need to adapt. Climate change is knocking on every door: our 🏡 homes, 🏫 schools, 🚗 roads, 🚂 trains, and even our 🌾 farms and 💼 supply chains. This is our chance to step up and shield us from the worst of it!
Why’s adaptation a big deal? 🌡️ The Earth’s already 1.3°C hotter than pre-industrial times, and last year we crossed 1.5°C. In the UK, the last decade (2014-2023) saw hot days (28°C) double and very hot days (30°C) triple compared to 1961-1990. Rainfall? Up 20% more days of crazy downpours. ☔
Think back to summer 2022—40°C in the UK for the first time ever. 🥵 Heatwaves, floods, droughts, even wildfires 🔥 are becoming our new normal. Our drainage systems, farming, and infrastructure are stretched thin.
We’ve got to adapt—and FAST—to tackle these extremes and whatever’s coming next. 🌱💪 Let’s build a future that’s ready for anything!
#ClimateAction #AdaptNow
This adapting to climate change idea is insane thinking based on a total misunderstanding of what climate change means.
Yes we should prepare for impacts, but what we need most is to massively reduce emissions. Not to plan to adapt.
