C341이 최종 선발됐다. 1963년 10월 18일 오전 8시, 알제리 사하라 사막의 발사대에서 베로니크 로켓이 발사됐다. C341은 9.5G의 중력을 버티며 고도 157km에 도달했다. 아폴로 우주비행사들이 달을 향해 발사될 때 받은 중력의 두 배였다. 우주에 머문 시간은 5분. 캡슐 안에서 지구를 내려다볼 창문은 없었다. 13분 후 낙하산을 타고 사막에 착지했고, 헬기로 회수됐다. 살아있었다. 그제야 이름이 붙었다. 펠리시테. '행복'이라는 뜻의 이름이었다. 펠리시테는 임무 직후 안락사됐고, 프랑스는 결국 자체 로켓으로 우주비행사를 보내지 못했다. 그녀의 희생이 무엇을 위한 것이었는지 명확한 답은 지금도 없다. 2020년, 프랑스 국제우주대학에 펠리시테의 동상이 세워졌다. 임무로부터 57년이 지난 뒤였다. 우주에 간 유일한 고양이. 번호로 보내졌고, 이름은 죽은 뒤에야 남았다. 그리고 살아 돌아온 고양이에게 인류가 준 건 안락사였다.
