Under @aishapandor's leadership, @SweepSouthSA impacted 50,000 women, executed millions of bookings, and closed a US$13M investment round led by @AlitheiaIDF in 2022. Congratulations to Aisha and to the new leadership team led by CEO, Lourandi Kriel, on this next chapter.
Some exciting news! Thrilled to be welcoming Lourandi Kriel as @SweepSouthSA’s new CEO, effective 29 Jan 2024. Growing SweepSouth over the last 9 years to serve over 2 million bookings and positively impact over 50,000 African women and their families and communities, has been a huge honor and something of which I’m incredibly proud. So excited and optimistic about this new phase of growth. I’ll continue to support SweepSouth as an executive director, while current SweepSouth MD Luke Kannemeyer moves into an expanded COO role. We invested in @JetstreamAfrica, via our gender lens fund, @AlitheiaIDF, on the data-informed evidence that the company and its leadership have the capacity to enable richer inter-continental trade and to unleash Africa's full potential.
When @JetstreamAfrica started operations in 2019, the hypothesis was that by grouping cargo together, they could reduce the export costs for small exporters. The team has since found out that exporters could not afford marginally cheaper export costs and were losing business as a result. Banks would not finance them because African bankers are not in the business of giving risky export loans without over-collateralization. So Miishe decided to add this to her business. In addition to freight forwarding, her team now writes up to $100k cheques to help small exporters fulfill international orders. If any startup business deserves support, it's Jetstream. I wrote about their hopes for growth here. techcabal.com/2023/11/21/jet…
