Little flashback from CSEdWeek 2015: As a CS supervisor in Arkansas, I had talked my wife
@MOwenlibrarian into hosting an
#HourOfCode (
#HOC) event at her
@BryantSchools K-5 school
@_HFESOwls (and promised to help her with it). Well, I did help some, but just a few days before the event, I was asked to attend a White House CS event in DC, which meant I wouldn’t be able to attend her HOC event in person.
I had a friend who worked in the corporate offices of
@Verizon , so I convinced them to bring their telepresence robot to her event so I could participate remotely. It ended up being even better than if I had been there in person (or so I believe). I spent the evening interacting with the students, parents, and guests who attended. The robot generated a lot of excitement and attention from both kids and adults.
Here are some pictures from that event: my wife and me (via the robot), me on the device talking to my youngest son, Harper (the blonde boy), and a view of my eldest son, William (the redheaded boy), teaching Johnny Key, the Arkansas Secretary of Education (and my boss), how to do the HOC. I was genuinely nervous about what William might say!
As we enter
#CSEdWeek 2025, I hope you all can take time not only to further advancing CS through your engagements but also to create wonderful memories of inspiring the next generation!
