72 blasts and nine months later, the excavation of the inverted utility siphon at the @Amtrak Frederick Douglass Tunnel – Southern Approach is complete! 💥 This complex effort required constructing two shafts up to 85 feet deep and mining a 345-foot tunnel beneath the active Northeast Corridor in Baltimore. Relocating critical city utilities deep below the future Frederick Douglass Tunnel south approach structure ensures they remain protected throughout all upcoming installation efforts. The Clark/@StacyWitbeck team collaborated with Atkinson Construction (@AtkinsonBuilds) and Clark Foundations to utilize controlled drilling and blasting, along with a robust support system of secant piles, rock bolts, and shotcrete, to complete this work without disrupting rail service. #ClarkBuildsMD

We’re paving the way to a better commute with a new roundabout, exit ramp, and overpass now open on the I-5 Mounts Road to Steilacoom-DuPont Road Corridor Improvements project! To get to this point, the @AtkinsonBuilds project team has successfully: 🏗️ 47 girders, ranging up to 165 feet and 210,000 pounds, set over railroad tracks using two 330-ton crawler cranes. 🚧 9,100 cubic yards of structural concrete and 65,000 tons of pavement. 👷 100,000 square feet of mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) walls.
