Hoverflies are both natural enemies of crop pests and pollinators! Their 'maggot' stage loves eating aphids and other small insect pests, and their adult fly stage is often mistaken for a bee as they fly around the crop #AgDayAu #AustralianPollinatorWeek @IOA_UWA @GRDCWest

Bees, beetles, flies, wasps, thrips, butterflies, moths and even mosquitos are all successful pollinators. Let's ensure we attract more of them to our gardens by planting a variety of native, nectar and pollen rich plants that bloom at different times #AustralianPollinatorWeek

Unlike other bee species that clamp their legs onto a flower and use their wings to vibrate it, the Blue Banded Bee (Amegilla spp.) head-butts the flower to achieve the same result. They can head-butt the anther 350 times a second! 📷️: India Wedge #AustralianPollinatorWeek
