🎙️ #ACC2023 was set ablaze this morning with a packed house for Dr. Mrdjan Jankovic's inspiring plenary talk! As one of the luminaries in the realm of autonomous control systems, Dr. Jankovic held our rapt attention as he unraveled the complex world of agent negotiation in traffic maneuvers and mobile robotics. He skillfully navigated us through the challenges of integrating negotiation into software algorithms and the fascinating behaviors of "decentralized" algorithms. The focus was on the fascinating concept of stability within the inter-agent space and the propensity for gridlock. Moreover, we dove deep into the realm of Control Barrier Functions (CBFs) and their utility in ensuring collision avoidance. Dr. Jankovic illustrated the potency of CBFs in handling non-convex obstacle avoidance problems, using a comparison of six different CBF-based control policies on a 5-agent, holonomic-robot system. The highlight of the session was the expansive simulations, which illuminated a spectrum of vehicle behaviors that are typically tough to decode.
