Can’t see why not. In fact, Providence does have one like Boston’s but the other four are significantly larger with dual axles, plus we have another one of these monstrous tower ladder trucks on order.

Boot the car. Boot all four tires. Then call a tow truck. If you can't get boots, then get a shop jack, the hydraulic kind with wheels. Jack the drive wheels up and put wooden blocks under the axles to hold the tires off the ground. Or get another car and block HER in!

x.com/Indy_reporter_/status/… This is exactly why @IndyBain is my favorite Indy City councilor. At the @IndyCouncil hearing on the proposed tax increase, Bain asked @IndyAndyNielsen a question that should have been asked from the very beginning: Has the city actually gone through its $1.7 billion budget, department by department and line by line, to identify spending cuts before asking taxpayers for more money? Nielsen's answer: "No, haven't." Think about that. The city is proposing higher taxes while admitting it hasn't yet completed a full review of where savings could be found. Bain pointed out that Indianapolis spends over $1 million on a DUI office and has spent hundreds of thousands on things like a glow-in-the-dark trail, all while residents are dodging potholes and replacing tires, rims, and axles on deteriorating streets. His point was simple: maybe the due diligence should come before the tax increase, not after. Tonight is the last city council committee meeting on the increase of wheel and excise tax. Next month it will most likely be approved at the full council meeting.
Last week, @IndyCouncil held its second meeting on raising the wheel & excise tax. @BootsForIndy asked @IndyAndyNielsen whether reducing spending in the city budget would count as "new revenue." Answer: Yes, it would. Which means Indianapolis does NOT have to raise taxes to generate the $50 million needed to qualify for the state's matching grant. Meanwhile, @nickroberts317 says a survey found 80% of respondents support higher taxes. Funny how elected officials who live with their grandparents and whose paychecks come from government never seem to have a problem spending your money.

Rear wheel steering, better suspension and weight distribution so they don't get caught out at the weigh bridges. Weigh bridges check axle weight. Having two distributes the weight over two axles so they can vary heavy mizigo.

When Henry Ford and his associates gathered in Detroit in 1903 to incorporate the Ford Motor Company, they stood on the foundation of years of hands-on experimentation that began with the simple Quadricycle Ford had built in a workshop behind his home seven years earlier. That early machine had demonstrated the potential of a lightweight, gasoline-powered vehicle, but turning such promise into reliable transportation required solving deeper mechanical problems that confronted every pioneer in the emerging field of self-propelled road vehicles. By the closing years of the nineteenth century, the United States was experiencing profound shifts in how people and goods moved. Cities were expanding rapidly, factories demanded more efficient logistics, and rural communities sought better access to markets and opportunities. Horse-drawn wagons and carriages, though long proven, imposed limits on speed, range, and reliability, especially as roads outside urban centers remained little more than dirt tracks that turned to rutted mud after rain. At the same time, the internal combustion engine had reached a stage where it could power a practical road vehicle, yet early designs frequently suffered from instability, crude steering borrowed from wagon technology, and difficulty maintaining alignment between axles on uneven ground. Inventors worked to adapt principles from bicycle construction and carriage building into something more robust, focusing on better ways to transmit power to the wheels and control direction without sacrificing durability. Ford continued to refine his approach in the years after the Quadricycle, directing his attention to the fundamental architecture of the motor-carriage itself. His 1901 patent addressed the critical need for a steering and connecting system that would keep the vehicle stable and responsive while allowing it to follow the irregularities of real roads. Rather than relying on a traditional fifth-wheel that turned the entire front axle, the design used a compound reach-rod arrangement linking the front and rear axles. This kept the axles parallel during straight travel yet permitted the front axle to oscillate slightly, improving contact with the road surface and reducing strain on the frame and wheels. Henry Ford’s specific contribution in this patent grew from his determination to create a motor vehicle capable of dependable service beyond the controlled conditions of a test track or smooth city street. The document describes the forward axle as fixed for most of its length in a constant position so as to remain always parallel with the rear axle, except that it is able to oscillate somewhat to accommodate road conditions. A rear-mounted engine drove the rear wheels through geared connections, while levers and vertical joints allowed the front wheels to change angle relative to the axle for steering. These practical solutions, developed during the same period that led to the founding of the Ford Motor Company, formed part of the engineering lineage that would soon produce the first Ford automobiles and, within a few years, the Model T that brought affordable personal transportation to so many Americans. My dad came across some VHS tape in a hobby store that went over a bunch of secrets/tips.. moved the axles wider, polished the nails/axles, polished and rounded the wheels, made it so only 3 of them touched, put all the weight directly over the rear axle, and aero similar to that Pic. Whooped everything at the derby as well

Don't take that advice. I know people that have tried them on SxS and they are incredibly expensive, break constantly and also put a ton of stress on axles, suspension links, etc which leads to constant issues with the vehicle as well. I have been into off-roading for basically my whole life with every type of vehicle imaginable and I promise that a regular wheeled ATV or SxS will be more than sufficient to get in and out in all conditions until the snow is more than deep enough to switch to a snowmobile.

I can't get my own parts somedays 😆 Actually these would come from Meritor. That is what they looked like at least. MACK axles are very distinct looking.

Background on the Situation • Record demand: Fire truck orders spiked sharply after the pandemic (e.g., 45% industry-wide in 2022 vs. prior averages), partly due to pent-up need from older fleets. • Supply issues: Manufacturers cite supply chain problems, labor shortages, and component delays (chips, axles, etc.), leading to extended lead times. • Company position: Oshkosh/Pierce has highlighted investments in U.S. production capacity, higher pricing to improve margins, and efforts to meet demand. • The cases have been centralized in federal court in Wisconsin. This quote is a standard corporate defense statement used across multiple news reports covering the lawsuits (which emerged in late 2025 and continued into 2026). It directly addresses criticism of high prices and slow deliveries by pivoting to safety, quality, domestic reinvestment, and strong market demand
