Autumn is an exciting time to go birding on #BansteadCommons. You can spot more unusual summer migrants en route to their winter feeding grounds. Top tip. Listen for a mixed flock of birds moving through the undergrowth - you might spot something exciting. πŸ“ΈKarl_D_Tarratt

A fantastically sized white puffball mushroom (Calvatia gigantea) found on Banstead Heath this morning. Its smooth and velvety surface, with a few craggy craters, makes it look just like a mini moon 🌝 #mycology #magicmushrooms #BansteadCommons @reigatebanstead

Robin's pincushion (or the rose bedeguar gall) are bursts of vibrant colour on #BansteadCommons at the moment. This gall is caused by the larvae of a tiny gall wasp, Dipoloepis rosae. The larvae of the wasp secrete chemicals which produce abnormal growth in wild roses.
