Meet Officer Vendor Carter III, a 2023 graduate of the TPD academy who recently completed his Field Training phase.
In 6th grade, Officer Carter's School Resource Officer made a lasting impact by advocating for him during a challenging time. Inspired by this experience, he joined the Topeka Police Explorer Post and pursued a career in law enforcement.
His motivation? To create a safer community and leave a positive mark, just like his SRO did for him.

Lt. Matt Danielson is a commander in our Field Operations Bureau or patrol. He also leads our Peer Support Team, with the help of therapy dog, Gracie.
Lt. Danielson has served at TPD for 20 years, on the honor guard, working in patrol, in the motorcycle unit, recruiting and hiring, the criminal investigations bureau, and more.
Right out of college after playing collegiate football, Danielson began working for a Fortune 500 company in Kansas City. In searching for greater fulfillment, he felt called to become a police officer. Twenty years later, he is still in love with public service and has this to say about his career, âAs I grow into leadership positions, I continue to love my job just as much as the day I started. I now know my purpose is to lead and inspire those around me to do the good work that this city needs and deserves.â
The city of Topeka is lucky to have Lt. Danielson protecting it.
