Firming of renewable power is vital as India pushes toward high shares of wind and solar in its energy mix. By improving forecast accuracy through advanced atmospheric and numerical weather models, system operators can better plan dispatch, reduce reserves, and minimise deviations. Clear regulatory frameworks on forecasting obligations, penalties, and incentives further drive discipline, data quality, and continuous improvement across the ecosystem. Repowering adds another powerful lever — replacing ageing, smaller, and inconsistent turbines with modern, larger, and more controllable machines that deliver higher and more stable energy yields from the same sites, while complying more effectively with grid codes on ramping, fault-ride-through, and active power control. Together, better forecasting, sound regulation, and repowering move variable renewables closer to truly firm and dispatchable behaviour.
