As the work week wears on, our energy levels are prone to dwindling on account of physical and mental fatigue.
Wednesdays are a convenient weekly reset point to pause, reflect and refocus our efforts (energy) for the latter part of the week.
Here are a few reset ideas to consider:
1. Quick Mind Resets (5-15 minutes)
Deep breathing or box breathing: Inhale for 4 counts, hold for 4, exhale for 4, hold for 4. Repeat a few cycles. This activates your body's relaxation response and lowers heart rate fast.
Guided meditation or mindfulness: Use a free app for a short session. Focus on the present moment—notice your breath, sounds, or sensations without judgment. Great for clearing mental clutter.
Gratitude practice: Jot down or mentally list 3 things you're thankful for. This shifts focus from stressors to positives and boosts mood.
2. Movement & Body Resets
Short walk or stretch break: Step outside for fresh air or do a quick chair yoga/stretch sequence. Physical activity releases endorphins and clears your head.
Progressive muscle relaxation: Tense and then release muscle groups from toes to head. This eases physical tension often carried from stress.
3. Sensory & Fun Resets
Listen to music or sing along: Play upbeat or calming tunes—belt out lyrics if you feel like it. Music is a fast mood booster.
Nature time or sensory grounding: Go outside, use the 5-4-3-2-1 technique (5 things you see, 4 you can touch, etc.), or enjoy a favorite scent like essential oils or fresh coffee.
Laugh or connect: Watch a funny clip, call a friend, or hug someone. Social connection and laughter lower cortisol (stress hormone).
4. Lifestyle Boosters for the Day
Hydrate and eat mindfully: Swap a snack for something nutritious and drink water. Proper fueling prevents energy crashes that amplify stress.
Digital detox mini-break: Step away from screens, news, or emails for a bit. Set boundaries to protect your "me time."
Creative outlet: Doodle, journal, dance to a playlist, or listen to a podcast. Doing something enjoyable builds resilience.
