This is Elon Musk in 2008, squatting amid the scattered wreckage and debris of SpaceX’s Falcon 1 rocket after its third failed launch attempt (August 2, 2008).
The rocket exploded shortly after liftoff due to a timing/residual thrust issue that caused the stages to collide. SpaceX had already failed twice before.
The company was nearly out of money, Elon had poured in his entire PayPal fortune, and it was his personal lowest point during the financial crisis.

He didn’t.
He studied the wreckage, fixed the problem, scraped together resources for one last try, and on September 28, 2008, the fourth launch succeeded. That single success saved SpaceX, won NASA contracts, and eventually led to reusable rockets, Starlink, and everything that followed.
