I hadn’t said anything before because I was honestly very upset. There were many situations between both companies that several fans chose to stay silent about in order not to worsen the fancon atmosphere or encourage more hate. However, after reading GIR’s statement and hearing what Mr. Barbosa from NextStage said, I decided to make this post.
Regarding GIR, it is very frustrating to see how they try to distance themselves from responsibility and as usual leave the other party as the sole one to blame. Yes, both companies made mistakes but what was mentioned in NextStage’s statement only reflects part of the problem.
The situation was much more complex than what is being portrayed and it would have been the right thing for GIR to acknowledge their part with the same level of clarity. I wish GIR would stop hiding behind others and pointing fingers without recognizing their own mistakes. The lack of transparency and self-criticism only worsens the perception fans and the general public have.
On a personal level, this situation affected me a lot. I lost two flights, I was close to losing two hotel reservations, I bought gifts for Smart and I even prepared freebies for Auralis and Syras. And I know for a fact that I’m not the only one, many fans experienced significant financial losses. What is most frustrating is feeling like we were never taken into account and that, from the very beginning, the company failed to understand the real impact of their decisions.
GIR’s irresponsibility doesn’t only affect the fans, it also puts the artist at risk. Exposing Smart to criticism and backlash due to poor management is completely unfair, especially when he had nothing to do with the issues. This kind of handling gives haters more reasons to attack him, which is something the company should be preventing, not causing.
It is very disappointing to see an artist with so much potential in a company that does not value him or properly protect his public image. This lack of professionalism does not go unnoticed and in the long term, it directly impacts his opportunities for collaboration and growth.
In the end, this is not about attacking for the sake of it but about demanding accountability, respect for the fans, and professional management that matches the level of talent they represent.
