CALLING DIGEST – DAY 30
CONFRONTATION: TWO KINDS OF REPENTANCE
When God confronts a man, it is not primarily to destroy him but to restore him. Divine confrontation is an expression of God's mercy, designed to bring a person to repentance and back into fellowship with Him.
The real issue is not whether a person has stumbled, but how he responds when God shines His light on the matter.
There are two kinds of repentance:
1. Godly Sorrow
Godly sorrow is sorrow because God has been offended. It is born out of a broken heart before God and produces genuine repentance.
It leads to:
Confession of sin
Forsaking wrong ways
Humility before God
Restoration and mercy
Spiritual growth and salvation
David demonstrated godly sorrow. When Nathan confronted him, he did not argue, defend himself, or justify his actions. He humbled himself before God and received mercy.
2 Samuel 12:13 (KJV)
"And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die."
2. Worldly Sorrow
Worldly sorrow is sorrow because of consequences, shame, embarrassment, or being exposed.
It leads to:
Excuses
Self-justification
Hiding and cover-up
Remorse without change
Spiritual decline and destruction
Judas Iscariot demonstrated worldly sorrow. He regretted what he had done but did not truly repent before God.
Matthew 27:4 (KJV)
"Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that."
His remorse ended in destruction rather than restoration.
Key Lessons
God's Confrontation Is Mercy
Every time God exposes a fault, it is an opportunity for restoration, not rejection.
Do Not Defend What God Is Correcting
Arguments, excuses, and self-justification only prolong the problem.
Genuine Repentance Produces Change
Repentance is not merely feeling bad; it is turning away from sin and returning to God.
Failure Does Not Have To Be Final
Peter fell and was restored. David fell and was restored. Anyone who genuinely repents can find mercy.
The Goal Is Restoration
God's desire is not merely confession but transformation and restoration.
2 Corinthians 7:10 (KJV)
"For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death."
Prayer
Father, give me a tender heart that responds correctly to Your correction. Deliver me from pride, excuses, self-justification, and cover-up. Let every confrontation from Your Spirit produce genuine repentance, restoration, and deeper fellowship with You. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
Digest Thought
"The difference between David and Judas was not that one fell and the other did not; the difference was how they responded when confronted."
Don't cover up. Confess. Don't hide. Repent. Receive God's mercy and walk in restoration.
