Many Chinese users will consider hostile claims from other sources, yet dismiss similar claims from Indian nationalist accounts almost automatically. Crude or historically confused arguments therefore do not damage China’s image. They reinforce existing contempt for India and give otherwise divided Chinese users a rare point of agreement. I am often asked why anti-Indian speech is not more restrained in China. A more useful question is why so much India-origin content about China is produced in forms that predictably intensify the hostility Indians complain about. The larger risk is reputational. These narratives may persuade almost nobody in China, while steadily shaping how Indian public culture is perceived beyond India.
