Litigation in Nigeria is poised at a pivotal juncture in 2026, driven by a convergence of far-reaching legal and regulatory developments. The most sweeping tax reforms in decades, crystallised in the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, are expected to generate a surge in disputes as businesses and sub-national governments navigate a fundamentally restructured fiscal regime. At the same time, heightened enforcement of the Data Protection Act and newly introduced digital lending regulations are set to elevate privacy and consumer protection to the forefront of litigation, a trend reinforced by recent judicial authority affirming the broad and expanding remit of regulatory agencies.
This evolving landscape is further shaped by the increasing integration of generative artificial intelligence into legal practice, raising novel and complex questions around ethics, professional responsibility, and standards of practice. KENNA’s analysis of these key drivers, as set out in our authored chapter, “Litigation Trends and Developments: Nigeria,” for the Chambers Global Practice Guide 2026, offers a structured and practical framework for understanding and navigating these emerging challenges.
The chapter was authored by Ituah Imhanze, FCArb (Managing Partner); Daze Nga, LL.M, MCArb (Partner); Damilola Raji (Senior Associate); and Ozioma Soludo, ACArb (Associate).
