From 1st to 5th June, Chapter One Foundation, in partnership with @AfricanParks, conducted the second phase of community engagement activities and a comprehensive Human Rights Audit across the Musungwa, Shezongo, and Kaingu Chiefdoms in Itezhi-Tezhi District, as well as Lufupa in Northwestern Province. The exercise was undertaken to assess and strengthen the integration of human rights principles and best practices within the management of the Kafue National Park. Through these engagements, we are enhancing community awareness of fundamental human rights, promoting meaningful participation, and establishing clear pathways for access to remedies where rights may be affected. We firmly believe that when rights-based safeguards are embedded in conservation efforts, trust and cooperation between communities and conservation actors are strengthened, leading to more sustainable and inclusive biodiversity protection. True conservation does not force a choice between people and wildlife it protects both. #WildlifeConservation #Biodiversity #HumanRights #NationalParks #ChapterOneFoundation #AfricanParks #SustainableConservation #CommunityEmpowerment

The Public Gatherings Bill empowers the police to restrict a proposed public gathering where the authorised officer has already received prior notice of another gathering scheduled for the same date, time, and venue. Also restricts where the venue for the public gathering is unsuitable for purposes of crowd and traffic control; interferes with other lawful business; or is within a protected area, a protected place, or a restricted area as prescribed and when an authorised officer reasonably believes that the public gathering is likely to result in public disorder, damage to property, or is a danger to public safety. #Rightstopublicassembly #PublicGatheringBill #Democracy #ChapterOneFoundation

Are you aware? The Electoral Process (Amendment) Bill No. 44 of 2026 allows political parties with councilors under the proportional representation system to remove the councilor at any time during their term. Without due process or clear reasons or public accountability. This goes against the principles of democratic elections and due process. This provision should be entirely removed from the bill and if this is maintained, then the Bill should provide clear grounds for removal. The councilor affected should be given the right to appeal and full due process must be guaranteed. #Democracy #GoodGovernance #LawMaking #CivicEducation #ChapterOneFoundation #ElectoralProcessAmendmentBill

Say NO to Political Violence! The growing number of reported incidents of political violence, intimidation, and unrest linked to the ongoing electoral process is deeply concerning. These developments threaten democratic participation and undermine public confidence in the electoral environment. The rights of all citizens to participate in political processes, and to freely exercise their freedoms of expression, association, and assembly, must be fully respected, protected, and upheld. #ChapterOneFoundation #Rightstopoliticalparticipation #Stoppoliticalviolence #Democracy

People should know who is seeking public office The Electoral Process Amendment Bill No. 44 of 2026 is proposing that parliament and local council candidate’s information should not be published in the Gazette, newspapers or electronic format. Whereas earlier versions of the bill required ECZ to publish particulars for all candidates. Voters need information to make informed choices. If candidate details are hidden or difficult to access, transparency suffers. People should know who is seeking public office, they should be able to review qualifications, declarations, and records before election day. This would build trust in the leaders we are electing. #Democracy #GoodGovernance #LawMaking #CivicEducation #ChapterOneFoundation #ElectoralProcessAmendmentBill
