What a load of utter BS....do your homework fella instead of regurgitating fake news talking points. In one breath you say EVs are too costly, then you immediately contradict yourself by claiming EVs quickly become worthless...🤡 Here's some facts to help educate you on this topic... Tesla's ModelY Premium RWD Purchase Price NZD$70k Charging Cost p/Km: 7-10cents (including RUC) Annual Maint/Service Cost: $300 Toyota Rav4 Ltd RWD Petrol/Hybrid Purchase Price: NZD$66k Cost p/Km: 17-20cents Annual Maint/Service Costs: $800 Resale Value after 3yrs; Tesla ~70% of purchase price, $49K Toyota ~75% of purchase price, $49K 3yrs running costs at 15k kms p/yr driven; Tesla: $4,725 - Charging $1,275 x 3yrs - Maint/Service: $300 x 3yrs Toyota: $10,725 - Fuel $2,775 x 3yrs - Maint/Service: $800 x 3yrs Total Cost of Ownership after 3yrs; Tesla $25,725 Toyota $27,725 As for range.... 1. No EV owner worries about range, their EV has more range than they need 2. Tesla ModelY Range is 460kms on a single charge, the avg person only drives 40-45Kms p/day. 3. 80% of all EV charging is done conveniently at home while the owner sleeps. 4. EV owners never need to find or visit a Gas Station and most never need to use a Public EV charger either. 5. NZ has an extensive Public EV Charging Network which spans from Cape Reinga to Bluff Total public chargers in NZ are around 1,800 with major government investment to more than double this soon (target: 10,000 by 2030). Public Chargers are; Tesla SuperChargers (150 Chargers), ChargeNet (550 Chargers), BP (150), ZEnergy (200) and 1,000 others at supermarkets, shopping centres, hotels, workplaces, and destination, McDonalds etc etc. A piece of advice for you Slater....if you dont want to be seen wearing an Egg face mask, then first educate yourself on this topic before posting about it😉

Great to be back home! Looks like I've brought the Spanish weather with me too. Now giving the Leaflet a guilt-free rapid charge at the massive ChargeNet site at the Bombay Hills. There's rapid charging for 18 EVs at once here. 💪 Way to go, kiwis!

Also if you are a Genesis customer chargenet connects to your home account and the prices are generally at the daytime rate, so at less than half the price on the charger. Eg charger says .95 cents, we pay .22 cents. So our average charge on a public charger is less than $20.

I just don't think it's a fair comparison. No one with an EV will be charging exclusively from ChargeNet. You'd fill up before leaving, likely paying off-peak rates or from a solar battery. Then you'd top-up from ChargeNet on the way. That's a material difference in economics

Chargenet is Genesis. A leopard doesn't change its spots. Power companies will become the new oil companies if they aren't reined in. Get solar and charge at home if you can.

That's the price if you're not a chargenet (Genesis) customer. A lot of people will be paying the home electricity rates at chargenet chargers.

Some cheaper rates at the Superchargers (which also have variable rates based on demand) but they aren’t as wide spread as ChargeNet. An EV plan with Genesis would be an option to bring ChargeNet costs down if you did end up being a heavy user.

Is it cheaper to use the electricity at home? If so that’s profiteering from Chargenet and my original point stands.

Once again, this govt is looking after big business. Interest free loans for Meridian and ChargeNet to build their businesses. But no interest free loans to householders for solar panels. rnz.co.nz/news/top/590328/50…

Omarama New Years Eve You left Christchurch late. Construction out Rolleston, per usual. Your caravan started to take its toll round Tekapo. The sole ChargeNet is occupied by a Nissan Leaf, owner's whereabouts unknown. The hot pools? Booked months ago by a tour bus. Your family, powered by 91 octane and mint imperials, march forward in the old Odyssey. You will see them again But not today

Also, is someone listening to me? I literally replied to you about charging in New Zealand and now I randomly get an email from ChargeNET who I haven’t used since I was in NZ and selected “close my account” before deleting the app 👻👻 Brb, checking my walls for bugs.

I just had a Tesla M3 in New Zealand (rental). ChargeNet was usually $0.85-$0.90 NZD, so about £0.37 / €0.42 / $0.49USD to £0.39 / €0.45 / $0.52USD. Tesla Superchargers on a subscription were about ⅔ of the cost. Fair good I thought! Given I was spending GBP 😬

Predicting Protein Variant Properties with Electrostatic Representations 1. A novel approach to predicting the properties of protein variants using electrostatic representations derived from solving the Poisson-Boltzmann equation has been explored. This method, called ChargeNet, integrates physics-based features with machine learning to improve variant effect prediction (VEP) models. 2. The study investigates whether physics-based representations, specifically electrostatic properties, can enhance the performance of VEP models compared to existing evolutionary models. The results show that while ChargeNet demonstrates significant predictive capacity, it does not outperform current evolutionary models on benchmark datasets. 3. ChargeNet incorporates a pipeline that includes structure prediction, partial charge assignment, and electrostatic potential calculation using the finite difference solver of the Poisson-Boltzmann equation. The electrostatic features are then used as inputs to a 3D convolutional neural network to predict protein variant properties. 4. The research highlights the potential of using electrostatic representations in VEP tasks, especially in scenarios where evolutionary models may be limited. However, the study concludes that ChargeNet does not provide a clear advantage over evolutionary models in the tested datasets. 5. The authors suggest that future work could focus on improving the integration of physics-based features with machine learning models, exploring different network architectures, and pretraining on diverse protein datasets to enhance the predictive capabilities of physics-based VEP models. 📜Paper: biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/… #ProteinEngineering #MachineLearning #Electrostatics #VariantEffectPrediction

Granted I was only using ChargeNet. But I did find some 300 kWh chargers that were so quick and there was always one available. If you think NZ sucks wait till you see Australia’s abysmal network, not to mention Australian media hate on EVs like it’s in our constitution.
