The People’s Court, The People’s Voice
In Ireland, the District Court belongs to the public. It stands as a place where ordinary citizens and all people living in Ireland can speak the truth, present evidence, and call every public official to account under the law.
The Petty Sessions (Ireland) Act 1851, the Courts of Justice Act 1924, and the Rules of the District Court 1997 affirm that justice is not reserved for the powerful. It is a right held by everyone.
When you bring information before the court concerning alleged offences by public officials, you exercise one of the most important responsibilities in a democratic society. Through the lawful procedures of the District Court, summonses may be issued, witnesses may be compelled to attend, evidence may be heard, and justice may proceed.
Courts are not distant institutions. They are public forums where truth can be spoken and where accountability can begin. Every voice raised with integrity strengthens the rule of law and reinforces the principle that no one stands above justice.
If you have evidence, your words matter. If you speak, the law listens. If you act, accountability becomes possible.
The court is open. The law is alive. Justice is waiting for those prepared to stand and speak the truth.
We have over 100 District Courts spread across Ireland, served by over 70 District Judges and more than 6,000 Peace Commissioners.
We have everything we need to hold public officials accountable under the laws of Ireland.
