A momentous gathering for the 50th Anniversary of IAMCR’s Communication Policy & Technology section 🎉
We’re deeply honoured to host 4–5 generations of scholars from 6 continents, reflecting on the past and future of our field with honesty, urgency, and hope.
Prof Lionel Wee, Dean of NUS FASS, kicked things off with a witty and optimistic welcome. Founding figures and field-shapers like Cees Hamelink, Robin Mansell, Rohan Samarajiva, Hopeton Dunn, Francesca Musiani, and Julia Pohle gave stirring reflections on the power dynamics shaping media and communication policy.
We spotlighted Asia-Pacific leadership in a regional panel with Peng Hwa Ang, Yu-li Liu, Jonathon Hutchinson, and Prof Hong Yu from Zhejiang University
A timely panel on AI governance featured key insights from international and local policy actors: Tarja Turtia, Jingbo Huang, Jungpil Hahn, and Han Ei Chew (PhD).
Two more panels showcased cutting-edge research on the evolving scope of communication policy—from infrastructures to rights, algorithms to activism.
Massive thanks to our organizing team: Renyi Hong, Jun Yu, and our director Weiyu Zhang. This celebration was a labour of love—and a feast of ideas.
