🚨 Lockheed Martin just got rocked.
They lost nearly 80% of their quarterly profit in a single blow. Their stock tanked 11% in one day, and most people have no idea what actually caused it. Here's a breakdown of what went wrong, and why it matters.
It started with a $1.6 billion hole. That’s how much they had to write off this quarter. Most of it came from one project which is a classified aeronautics program that’s reportedly way behind schedule. Design issues, test failures, integration problems. No names or transparency. Just a black hole in the books.
That one program alone cost them $950 million.
Then came more hits:
$570M from the troubled Canadian Maritime Helicopter Program
$95M from a Turkish utility helicopter deal
A handful of smaller classified write offs
By the time the dust settled, Lockheed’s profit collapsed from $1.64 billion to $342 million. That's not just a bad quarter that’s a nosedive let's be straight.
They were forced to cut their full year earnings forecast too:
From $27/share down to $21.70
Operating profit sliced from $8.2B down to $6.6B
What’s strange is that they’re still expecting strong revenue and cash flow.
The F-35 program, missile contracts, and space projects are stable. But the classified stuff is bleeding money and no one outside knows what it actually is.
Now investors are obviously rattled.
This wasn’t supposed to happen at Lockheed, especially not when global tensions are fueling defense budgets, and yet it did.
For contrast:
Northrop Grumman posted solid earnings and saw their stock jump 9%
Lockheed dropped 11%, their worst day in nearly two years.
So here’s the question:
Is this just a one off? Or is it a sign that something deeper is broken in Lockheed’s secretive black budget work?
Because if they’re losing close to a billion dollars on a program no one can talk about there’s probably more going on than we’re being told.
