Serious concern needs to be expressed over the rising obscenity and violation of moral boundaries in the name of Stand-up Comedy. The incidents that occurred during Pranit More's show under the pretext of crowd work, Himanshu Jangra's remarks that trivialized women's consent and respect, and the highly inappropriate jokes made by female doctor Sejal Pawar on the private parts of dead bodies in a medical college all these events are deeply disturbing for society.
These are not only an insult to the dignity of respected individuals who donated their bodies, but are also having a negative impact on the younger generation. Stand-up Comedy is a powerful medium that can guide society through intelligent social satire and positive humor. However, nowadays some comedians and audiences are turning it into a hub of cheap obscenity, personal insults, and complete lack of decorum.
Disregarding ethics, consent, and respect under the guise of entertainment is unacceptable. It is the responsibility of comedians to stay within the limits of humor, while audiences must also act responsibly and not promote wrong content.
True comedy comes from intelligence, not from shock value or obscenity. The Stand-up industry must define its boundaries, otherwise it will lose its credibility. An appeal for healthy debate and better content.
