#49ers OL coach Chris Foerster on why they haven’t invested in offensive linemen with first or second round picks that often in the draft:
“My personal opinion, invest in guys that touch the ball. Guys that can touch the ball and score touchdowns. There’s a range of guys, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th round that we’ll find starting offensive linemen in.
At some point can you draft a Trent Williams, yeah, a pick in the draft where you’re getting a difference maker, but there’s guys who can make a difference that touch the ball well into the 2nd, 3rd, 4th rounds… when that guy touches the ball, it makes a huge difference in the game. The right guard makes a difference, but that’s where we’re able to find 4th and 5th round draft picks.”
