Grab your broomstick and join us as we pay a flying visit to the town of Cobh, located on the Great Island in Cork Harbour, and the next stop in our
#SpookyStories series! 🧹
The Arch Building which currently houses Cobh Library dates to the 1850’s. 🧾
In 1915, the library was used as a temporary morgue to hold the victims of the Lusitania disaster prior to repatriation or burial in the Old Graveyard on the island. 🪦
Despite this grim history, today the library is a lovely, bright, warm, and welcoming space and staff have yet to encounter any spooky spectres ... though there’s a first time for everything! 👻
Although former Cobh Librarian Ms Doody passed away many years ago, she is still fondly mentioned by long-standing library users, who regale staff with stories of their visits to the library as children. Ms Doody is very much a presence in the library, and if any spirit still was to walk the library floor it might be hers! 📚
