🕯️ TRIBUTE TUESDAY 🕯️
Today we remember Elizabeth Collins and Lyric Cook-Morrissey, two cousins, two bright smiles, and two young lives taken far too soon.
On July 13, 2012, 8 year old Elizabeth and 10 year old Lyric left for a bike ride in Evansdale, Iowa. When they failed to return home, a massive search began involving law enforcement, volunteers, and an entire community desperate to bring them home safely.
The following day, their bicycles and personal belongings were discovered near Meyers Lake. Months later, on December 5, 2012, hunters found the girls' remains in a remote area of Seven Bridges Wildlife Park in Bremer County, nearly 25 miles away.
More than 13 years later, their murders remain unsolved.
Elizabeth and Lyric were more than a case. They were daughters, cousins, friends, students, and beloved members of their families. They had dreams, laughter, and a future that should have been theirs.
Their families continue to seek answers.
Their community continues to remember.
And we continue to say their names.

After nearly 40 years, Carla Beth Anderson’s family is still searching for answers and closure. Carla was only 23 when she vanished from her apartment in Wadena on November 13, 1987. She was never seen again.

On May 27, 1991, Milwaukee police officers John Balcerzak and Joseph Gabrish handed a naked, bleeding 14-year-old boy back to Jeffrey Dahmer. Then they got in their car and laughed about it on the radio.
Konerak Sinthasomphone had been found wandering North 25th Street by neighbors Glenda Cleveland and her daughter. Disoriented. Visibly injured. Barely standing. Cleveland called 911. When officers arrived, Dahmer was already there, calm, telling them the boy was his 19-year-old boyfriend and this was a domestic dispute. They believed him. They walked Konerak back to Dahmer's apartment themselves.
Cleveland called back. Told them the boy looked young, looked hurt. The dispatcher relayed her concern. The officers dismissed it.
Konerak was murdered that same night. He was the eighth of Dahmer's seventeen victims, and he had been in police hands.
Balcerzak and Gabrish were fired, then reinstated after an arbitration ruling. Balcerzak was later elected president of the Milwaukee Police Association.
The system didn't just fail Konerak. In several specific, documented ways, it chose not to save him.

The @fortmyerspolice detectives say two Black male suspects fired multiple shots into Jenkins' Ford Taurus, killing him at the scene. More than a decade later, this homicide remains unsolved.
