Yessir. I smoked some wings and made some black-eyed peas with collards. They were killer. Thanks for asking!

Happy to share something I've been building: Zone 8a Garden is live at zone8a.com 🌿 This demonstrates my continued partnership with Claude Code to take ideas from concept to launch in hours or days. It walks through one raised bed for a full year, from spring spinach to summer beans to the broccoli, cabbage, kale, and collards that carry the bed through fall and winter (and get sweeter after the first frost). We are rolling this out in our home garden starting in June, from seed. Quick thing: the USDA updated its hardiness zone map in 2023, and many areas moved a half zone warmer. There's a map in the post so you can find out if you're already in Zone 8a. If you are (or you're close), you can copy the whole rotation and just shift the dates to your own frost calendar. zone8a.com/launch/

Can't you just eat a healthy, balanced, clean diet, like humans have done for eons? My parents' families were southern farmers. Everything they ate was deep-fat fried, smothered in gravy, and served with a side of collards (with pepper sauce, of course!). And they all dropped dead like flies! In their late 80s and 90s. But of course, their diets weren't full of artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, emulsifiers, etc. Just as importantly, they were active and doing physical labor. My great uncle literally worked his farm up to the day he died just a few weeks shy of 92.

This soup is loosely based on a favorite West African Pepper Stew, and includes 2 Serrano peppers with seeds; a pound of grass fed beef, fresh collards, okra, green onion and garlic, 6 quail eggs (dropped in), beef bone broth, coconut aminos, cayenne, salt and pepper. If you’re looking for a way to use okra for its micro-plastic removal properties - this is a delicious (and spicy) way to do it 💡 #KETO #EatRealFood

Tide's gonna get high, and the crabs are about to be in the collards. For a few days.

Oh I see. I had not considered that. I think I’m in 8b and our is pretty long too but we also have extremely hot and humid summers and if you don’t heavily mulch and water deeply everything wilts here too. Broccoli bolts, collards etc.

When traveling I like to get local dishes, so those are good choices. The rice is more typical of Mexican restaurants but if I were from Japan I’d want to try different rice dishes. Other possibilities are collards, bbq beans, mashed or baked potato, corn bread or salad w ranch

Every ethnicity has something to offer. Beyond the steakhouse its peasant dishes rhat carry the day. Pasta fagiola, Tikka masala, shepherds pie, fried chicken & collards, kielbasa & pierogi, arroz con pollio, sushi, etc, etc, etc.

I could do without meat- but replace the carrots and green beans with collards and butter beans- yes I am Southern!
