As winter approaches the #CommonToad will often bury themselves down in the mud for warmth, which as you can see in this image, adds an effective layer of camouflage!

This is our native #CommonToad.
It has very dry-looking, bumpy skin and has raised poison glands behind it's eyes (the awful taste produced can be exuded across its skin to deter predators).
They have shorter legs used to crawl or walk rather than leap like our common frog.

Our #LondonBlueChain Trainees were treated to a path full of tiny toadlets on their way to work this week at @lesnes_abbey!
English folklore from the 12th century, when Lesnes Abbey was founded, believed a #CommonToad crossing your path was lucky!

This beautiful #CommonToad was spotted in #Glasgow at a local park during some #PondDipping.
The bumpy skin, oval glands behind the eyes and shorter legs are distinctive to our common toad species.
