The Shree Swaminarayan Temple community near Cardiff has launched a 66-acre farm to grow fresh fruits and vegetables for their temple café and community events. This unique project, the first of its kind in the UK, blends traditional Indian farming with modern approaches and offers a welcoming space for the community to connect with their roots and nature. Agricultural urbanism shapes Southlands Tsawwassen- a beach community rooted in farming and food. Agriculture deeply infuses the culture and activation of “community” at Southlands. Earthwise Garden (right foreground)- a non-profit society devoted to promoting sustainability, has been on-site since the beginning of planning for Southlands, focusing on protecting urban habitat and promoting regenerative agricultural practices. Community allotment gardens (left foreground) allows residents and others to engage in growing at a small scale, adding to local food production and nurturing wonderful community social interaction connected to the land and nature. Large crop conventional farming (top left in distance) encompasses 270 acres of land returned to BC’s Agricultural Land Reserve and actively conventionally farmed (a portion embracing organic farming practices) by Delta farmers. “A reverence for the land, a deep understanding of the community, a passion for excellence in New Urbanism, and an unwavering commitment to the project's overall purpose. Food For the Soul, a community farm in the heart of a food desert in Pittsburgh, is facing removal as a local community organization plans an affordable housing project. According to PublicSource, a local nonprofit news outlet, the organization behind the development says affordable housing is more urgently needed. Food For the Soul founder Ebony Evans, along with hundreds of others backing her petition to save the farm, says that while she shares "concerns about rising housing prices, we know there are other alternative lots where housing could be developed.
