Starting in Kindergarten, I was unable to stand more than 2 days straight of the classroom environment so always took Wednesday's off. That first year was 39 weeks long and I missed 39 days, all Wednesdays. Same every year after that. In 8th grade I took College courses in lieu of electives and by working like a dirty dog got my Architect's License before 9th grade was done in Shawnee County, KS and also my Business License..sold my first design for a commercial building soon afterwards. Then in 10th grade at Topeka High began taking Engineering Courses at K-State, English a Emporia Teachers College and Humanities at KU in lieu of electives. Was not a straight A student as I was spastic somewhat and could not do well in PE.
With a perfect MCAT I dropped out of HS and started Pre-Med but was drafted as I turned down my 2S deferment as I thought that was unfair to the poor kids who could not afford college and was drafted 3 weeks later even though I was underweight and could not have joined.
After 9 1/2 years enlisted I accepted a Commission as an O-3, and 14 years later I turned down a promotion to O-6 and retired to go back to Med School while I was still somewhat young.
I was accepted days later by GWU and started immediately even though I still only had a Junior HS diploma.
I graduated HS in 2022.
I now study to be a concert pianist.
Oh...all my time in the service; I took a day off every week and at boot camp I let my DI know I could not march, but I could shoot the eyes out of a bird at 25 yards. When I outshot all the instructors the first time I shot a M1911A1 and made Expert with 57 points to spare, I was given other things to do while the rest of the guys marched.
I also let them know I could swim as far as they wanted, but I had REALLY short arms...this means I go kinda slow. "No problem, just have to swim a mile." I set a record for the mile at CG Boot camp, one that may stand forever. One that PO1 Urqhardt my DI likely wished he did not have to stand there and witness. It was well over a 5 hour mile. His only comment when I got out, "Them are some mighty short arms, boot. Pass!" I think he was absolutely amazed I had that much stamina.
The next worse time was around 30 minutes. Yeah, I actually took 10 times longer as the 80th slowest swimmer than the 79th slowest swimmer.
So, like when the next to the slowest swimmer was swimming the last half mile I was compling my second lap. I think the DI was absolutely mesmerized with the slowness of my pace and wondering if I was fighting some unknown current in my lane.
Takes all kinds.
