TIP: If your packing wheels are too wide, you risk surface compaction and a loss in cutting power—especially when planting green or in tough soil conditions. Research from the University of Nebraska shows the ideal packing wheel width is about 5” narrower than your row spacing. Narrower wheels help reduce row unit bounce without sacrificing depth, while still carrying the weight of the drill. It’s all about getting the most consistent seed-to-soil contact in any condition.

Just an outstanding visual! What is crazy to consider is that most of our “native” bulk density’s for CNW soils in NCIA are in that 1.25-1.35 without additional wheel traffic.......thin margins for sure if you work them too wet! #compactionmatters
