A Step Towards More Accessible Medicines for Europeans 💊🇪🇺
I welcome the new legislation presented yesterday by the
@EU_Commission, a crucial step towards strengthening the EU’s competitiveness in pharmaceutical policy and, most importantly, ensuring that people have access to the medicines they need. Because a strong and competitive EU is not just about the economy and defence, it is also about healthcare.
Key statistics speak for themself:
📌 Nearly 70% of prescribed medicines in the EU are generics.
📌 Yet, over the past decades, the production of their active ingredients has largely moved outside Europe, making these essential medicines harder to access.
📌Since early 2025, Slovakia has been facing shortages of more than 120 types of medicine, including antibiotics and treatments for high blood pressure.
No one should worry about whether their essential medication will be available when they need it. Me and my colleagues at
@progresivne_sk &
@RenewEurope, we support the Commission’s initiative—we will work hard to ensure that patients in all EU countries, including smaller ones like Slovakia, don’t face shortages of crucial medicines.
Better healthcare for people in Slovakia and across Europe is something I care deeply about. I am looking forward to continuing this important work!💙

We excel in innovative medicines, but we need to be vigilant about keeping generic drug production in Europe.
Our Critical Medicine Act aims to:
💊ensure easier access
🇪🇺boost local production
🧪improve supply chain security
=more stability for the EU's pharmaceutical industry.
