The physical differences between men and women are the only universally accepted differences between the two sexes. In competitive sports, these physical differences have always been fundamental to maintaining fairness. Men and women have distinct physiological traits; men typically have greater muscle mass, bone density, and lung capacity. These inherent advantages have long been the basis for gender-segregated competitions. Thus, allowing athletes to compete according to their birth gender ensures a level playing field and honors the principles of fair competition and equality.
Life is not always fair, and often, we must choose the option that brings the least unfairness. After researching the matter, it is my belief that allowing transgender women to compete in women’s sports creates much more unfair situations for cisgender women athletes. Therefore, transgender women should face the reality that we cannot always get everything we want in the name of inclusivity. This approach respects both the spirit of competitive fairness and the physical differences that have always structured the world of sports.
