Today marked a significant milestone in India’s electronics manufacturing journey.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) approved investment proposals worth nearly ₹41,800 crore under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), reinforcing the Government of India’s commitment to building a strong, self-reliant electronics components ecosystem.
More importantly, ECMS is designed to catalyse deep manufacturing in India, moving the ecosystem decisively beyond assembly-led growth towards high domestic value addition, technology depth, and component-level self-reliance. By anchoring critical components within India, the scheme strengthens the foundation for globally competitive electronics manufacturing.
These approvals are expected to generate close to 34,000 direct jobs and enable large-scale domestic production across critical electronic components and sub-assemblies. With a projected production output of over ₹2.5 lakh crore. The approved proposals span key segments including printed circuit boards, capacitors, connectors, enclosures, lithium-ion cells, camera and display modules, optical transceivers, and other essential sub-assemblies. These projects across multiple states will strengthen regional manufacturing clusters and dispersing industrial growth.
Hon’ble Minister for Electronics & IT, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw ji, emphasised to build strong design ecosystem, institutionalise world-class quality standards equivalent to Six Sigma, and organise structured buyer–seller meets in the electronics domain. These measures are critical to establishing a self-reliant electronics manufacturing ecosystem in India.
By prioritising components that have traditionally been import-dependent, ECMS directly addresses a long-standing structural gap in India’s electronics ecosystem and enables tighter integration with global value chains across mobile devices, IT hardware, automotive electronics, telecom equipment, consumer electronics, and strategic sectors.
At ICEA, we see ECMS as a critical enabler for scale, depth, and long-term competitiveness of India’s electronics manufacturing landscape. ICEA congratulates Tata Electronics, Dixon, Motherson, ATL Battery, TDK, Yuzhan Technology (India) Private Limited, India Circuits, and others for securing approvals under this tranche, and looks forward to working closely with industry and government to ensure timely execution and sustained outcomes.
