What's your thinking and on what ks it based?
I'm conjecturing that 10 or 15 yeas in a "12 step program" might be effective in a very few cases, mostly because few would "work the program."
But (my conjecture continues) 12 step programs inculcate new habits of mind. Today, saying to oneself "How imortant is it?" feels forced, artificial. But it can become a habit, a conditioned reflex, like riding a bike.
Zazen is like that. Today, letting it drift by is awkward. After a few years ...
And the new habits often get the famously effective "intermittent positive reinforcement."
Just a conjecture.
