本日の接合部 シンガポール・HarbourFront また新種、発見。 何気なく見上げたバス停の屋根。 ブルーの鉄骨がやたらきれい。 そして近づくと―― おや？ ガゼットプレートに 横向きのリブプレート。 これは珍しい配置。 プレートだけで終わらず、 リブで面外剛性をしっかり確保。 鋼管柱への応力伝達もかなり素直に流れそう。 こういう「ちょっとした一工夫」があると、 思わず立ち止まって観察してしまう。 観光名所より先に 接合部を撮っている自分がいる。 職業病です。 ⸻ Today’s Connection Detail HarbourFront, Singapore Found another interesting steel connection today. Just a bus stop roof — but a nice blue steel frame caught my eye. Looking closer, I noticed something unusual: a gusset plate with horizontal rib plates added. A small detail, but structurally meaningful. The ribs improve out-of-plane stiffness and help transfer forces more clearly into the steel pipe column. It’s these small detailing decisions that make engineers stop and look up. Apparently, I photograph connections before landmarks now. 本日の接合部 羽田空港 T2 久しぶりのT2。 なんだかやけに混んでいる。 便数、増えました？ ふと上を見ると、 ああ、ここは接合部の展示会場だった。 屋根一面、鋼管・鋼管・鋼管。 しかも、日本らしい継手。 お気づきの方も多いと思いますが、 シンガポールとは継手の思想が違う。 日本は、 鋼管の間にプレートを噛ませて、 応力を「ちゃんと」伝える。 でも、よく見ると── プレートが無い継手も混じっている。 あれ？と思った人、正解です。 一度ボルトで仮固定し、 その後、現場溶接。 役目を終えたプレートは切断。 よく見ると、 ボルト接合に使われていた痕跡が、 ちゃんと残っている。 空港は、 人だけじゃなく、 構造の流れも見送っている場所なのかもしれない。 ⸻ Joint of the Day Haneda Airport T2 It’s been a while since I came to Terminal 2. It feels unusually crowded. Have the number of flights increased? I looked up — and realized this place is a full-scale exhibition of connections. Steel pipes everywhere. And very Japanese-style joints. Some of you may notice this already, but the design philosophy is different from Singapore. In Japan, plates are inserted between steel pipes to ensure proper force transfer. But if you look closely — you’ll find joints without plates. If that made you pause, you’re right. They are first temporarily bolted, then welded on site. After that, the plates are removed. If you look carefully, you can still see the traces left by those temporary plates. 本日の接合部 品川駅 この接合部、 「何かが無くなった跡」なのか、 それとも 「これから何かが載る前触れ」なのか。 途中で、きれいに止まっている。 あまりにも意味ありげに。 あまり来ない駅なので記憶は曖昧だけど、 たぶんこれは―― これからのやつ。 この先、 ボルト孔があいて、 柱が立って、 何事もなかった顔で 荷重を受け始める。 でも今はまだ、 準備中の接合部。 品川駅を出ると、 よだれが出そうな鉄骨の橋を建設中。 しかも片持ち状態。 危険だけど、美しい。 未完成だけど、いちばん面白い。 完成したら誰も気にしない。 でもこの瞬間は、 構造屋だけが立ち止まる。 今日も駅で、 一人だけ静かに興奮しました。 ⸻ Connection of the Day Shinagawa Station This connection— is it something that was removed, or something waiting to be added? It stops halfway, too clean, too intentional. I don’t come to this station often, but my guess is simple: this is for what comes next. Soon, bolt holes will appear, a column will rise, and it will start carrying loads as if nothing ever happened. But for now, it’s a connection in preparation. Outside the station, there’s a steel bridge under construction— cantilevered, no less. Risky, yet beautiful. Incomplete, yet the most exciting. Once finished, no one will notice.
