As part of the joint coordination with our partners in the UAE, and as part of the broader effort they are leading to expand medical assistance for the residents of the Gaza Strip, a large quantity of medical equipment was delivered over the past week for the new Emirati clinic in the southern part of the Strip. The equipment includes, among other items, ultrasound machines, blood testing devices, first-aid kits, medical laboratory equipment, hospital beds, and X-ray machines. The clinic is expected to begin operating in the coming weeks and provide medical treatment to approximately 500 patients per day. Since the beginning of the year, more than 22,000 pallets of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) supplies have been approved for the UN agencies and the international organizations. In practice, however, fewer than 2,000 pallets have actually been coordinated and brought into the Gaza Strip. Israel continues to allow and facilitate the entry of humanitarian supplies on a large scale. If there is a need for additional equipment and supplies, the approvals are already in place and the organizations have the ability to utilize them. When less than 10% of the approved supplies are actually coordinated for entry, it is difficult to argue that the problem lies with Israeli restrictions. The approvals exist. While some choose to promote claims of Israeli restrictions, the facts tell a different story: the approvals are in place, and their implementation depends on coordination by the organizations that requested them. Ahead of the summer, COGAT is coordinating with international organizations on solutions to improve the water response in the Gaza Strip. Last week, alongside CRS we coordinated the entry of 15 large water containers containing a total of 80,000 liters of water. This week, a productive meeting between the ICRC and COGAT finalized a series of major upgrades and expansions for the ICRC field hospital in Al-Mawasi in Gaza.
