It's a chain, just ask it about countersinking a bolt with a titan x-3 space saving rack and use your brain visually about the steps, it will insist on literal backwards stuff and think it works

Some need a smooth level surface that the countersinking flathead fastener provides. I hate slot head fasteners unless it's permanent.

Countersinking and plugging some screw holes. I drilled deep countersinks using the Amana Tool 55227 carbide tipped adjustable no-mar countersink, cut tapered plugs using 607-310 3/8" tapered plug cutter and trimmed them flush using the PLP-100 plug planer, all from @toolstoday

I’m going through a tough (painful) break-up right now. It’s a separation that’s been long in the making, but sudden in its execution. Turns out, relationships only work if both parties are on the same page, the person who selects and assembles the hardware, and the person doing the countersinking. If I have to redo every single countersink (100's) then maybe I should have just used a socket cap screw and a washer instead. Yes, it might seen like a regression in design behavior, but I have to do what is needed, for my personal sanity. I might dabble with a CSK screw from time to time, but for all intents and purposes… we’re done. Finished. This chapter is closed, thank you for your attention on this matter. 💔

A set screw. You use the Allen wrench to tighten it and it usually holds something in place. Like a countersink drill bit you can loosen the set screw to adjust the length of the drill bit before the countersinking part. (Pictured below)

For many aspects and processes you are perhaps right. Lasering metal, pending, adding hardware, countersinking etc and then powder coating, I agree totally and understand where you are coming from as a contract manufacturing services provider. However, there so many aspects of more detailed and skilled manufacturing (tooling, for example) that require immense amounts of generational tribal knowledge and experience learned from and those that are fast departing. How do I see this playing out? Simple, I am watching on X young people with no-generational hand over of knowledge that are doing forming, casting and other services. For them toiling away learning these skills and doing self-discovery it is awesome to see, but also painful to watch for our country. They are literally starting from zero and thinking they are catching fire for the first time in human history. They are not and that is painful to watch at times. We - as a whole society - disconnected our youth from generational knowledge. Thankfully on casting @CrystalEBentley is doing an awesome job. @aphysicist is tackling toolmaking and attempting to move us into AI fueled lights-out tooling, but these folks know that the market alone cannot provide the emerging talent with the capital to accelerate fast enough to make up for the outpouring of old guard who are hanging up their shingle at an accelerating rate. The same is true in medicine and a myriad of other fields that require immense learning curves and for which there is no amount of LLM source material to fill in the blanks. We need an industrial policy and a workforce development initiative the likes of which we have not seen since WWII.

Sometimes we get some requests to alter our original storage solutions and sometimes they don't work A couple of things for this client. Countersinking the holes so the points find their place easier - huge win. And making them magnetised to snap together - another big win.

In case you missed it, here’s how the first 7 years of SCS has gone How it started (2018): - Bought a laser - Developed instant quoting system - Hired 3 people - We can cut metal with lasers! - We can ship it to your door! How it went for 7 years (from what I can remember): - Bought another laser - Hired 9 more people - Added 23k lines of code to our app - Ran out of space in the FedEx truck for the first time - Added CNC bending - Added loads of materials: 6061, 7075, 316 stainless… - Added PEM hardware insertion - Hired 15 more people - Added ceramic tumbling - We’re on BattleBots! - New tool: Parts Builder - Bought another laser - Reduced lead time 18% - Some of our parts raced in the Baja 1000 - Powder coating in black, gray, white, blue, green, red… - New facility! Paris Kentucky - Added 55k lines of code to our app - Bought another laser - Shipped our 1,000,000th part - Removed 9 racoons from Paris Kentucky ceiling - Ice storm shut down Paris facility - Hired 77 more people - Bought another laser - First package shipped to Canada! - Broke a fire sprinkler and had a little flood - Added CNC router cutting for wood and plastics - Made a jet-powered sheet metal car - Added water jet cutting for composites - Added tapping service - Bought another laser - Launched $1M STEM Sponsorship Program - New service: Zinc plating - Sponsored our 50th FSAE team - Added 74k lines of code to our app - New Facility!
