Deep Thoughts....w/Machews Long AF Version sry☀️
Let’s talk DC Comics for a minute… I’ll hit MLB another time...
From the beginning, Palm had some kind of licensing agreement with DC Comics 🤝None of it was public, so for years we were just trying to figure out what was driving the cover selections 🤔
We’d see drops and be like… how did that get picked 😅
Why didn’t this come out?
What’s actually stopping some of these better covers?
What became pretty clear over time 👀 DC was largely feeding the covers, and the assumption was we’d want them or just accept them (we just degens)
A lot of those choices felt tied more to broader marketing pushes 🎬 movies, products, brand visibility
Which at times made it feel like we were more of a testing and sales ground than true collectors
Then Palm steps out… and everything shifts 🔄
Candy takes the reins and starts engaging with us more 🧠Asking questions, listening, and next thing you know… we start seeing better things happen
And this isn’t a dig on the Palm team, but at face value, that’s how it looked from our side 🤷♂️
Candy would bring ideas based on community input 🧠 but that still didn’t mean everything got approved
There’s always been a gap between what we wanted and what actually made it through 📉
With that being said, things started to turn fairly quickly ⏱️A lot of that, in my opinion, had to do with
#HouseNew stepping up and directly engaging with us on the socials......
I don’t work for Candy, so I don’t know what goes on internally 🤷♂️But during those quieter periods, he was one of the most visible voices pushing things forward
Even though he always made it clear it was a team effort and never wanted to take credit… and that’s fine 😅
#falsehumble JK
Believe it or not, prior to the hiatus, month over month, Candy’s transactions and overall sales were trending up
💰We were bringing in people (
#Veve ) outside of the usual Candy crowd as well. So I know what we were doing was working
Now with all that being said 👇
Candy is operating in a space that requires real comic book knowledge, beyond just what DC provides
And here’s the reality 👇
You can’t have non-comic collectors consistently trying to deliver what comic collectors want to buy
Before, it worked because a lot of us weren’t comic collectors yet 🤷♂️We all were learning as we went
But now… that’s changed 📚
More of this community has become physical collectors in the time away. We already kind of been labeled the redheaded stepchildren of the comic book space by physical collectors for promoting digital, and the reactions to us even talking about it online (and yes, I can say that because I have red hair 😅) were vicious
But the truth is we’ve become hybrid collectors
We support physical and digital because it’s all about the art 🎨
When you really think about it… when you preorder or buy online, you’re already looking at a digital image before it ever shows up 📱
Which makes the whole argument kind of ironic AF… but I digress
So if Candy wants these future drops to succeed 💰 and I know they do, they need help learning what we actually want from the community
We always scream for "Wen
#AC1"… and yeah, that’s the grail 🏆 but we’ve got to think beyond just the obvious
For this to work, we’ve got to give them something usable 🧠 a roadmap, a real shopping list
My recommendation is simple 👇
If you’re a DC3 collector and there are covers you want to see, post them 📢
Make lists, tag Candy, tag Tad, put it out there👀give them something they can take and advocate for us upstream to DC 🏛️
Worst case… when they see what’s available, they already know what we want and start picking winners 🎯
Thank you for your time 🙌
If none of this sells anyone on DC3....know this, I used to spend 2k a month of digital, and it's hard to even spend 100$ a week a on physical comics....
