Cycling Life

I love the reaction I get from >some people< when they learn that I don’t own a car (any more) and cycle full time. Some people “oh, so you think you’re saving the planet eh?”
Um, no. I think I’m saving about 10 grand a year and getting a shit tonne of cardio exercise. Helping to save the Planet is just an accidental byproduct. I’m being honest here, “Saving the Planet” never entered into my calculations when I decide not to replace my old car. Money was the main motivator.
Now that I am going on year three with sans car, I can also say;
1) I love that I can eat like pig and not gain weight. With my cycle commute and work, I burn around 3500 to 4000 calories a day. Less on weekends.
2) I get a shit tonne of cardio and every work day is leg day.
3) Cycling through the countryside is a true Zen experience.
4) I save a shit tonne of money, and even when I need a car I rent. Even with car rentals, the occasional taxi, cycling gear. I’m still saving $8,000 a year right now. Oh yes, no Gym membership fees
5) like number 3, I enjoy my rides. They are relaxing, calming,… they relieve me of any stress. I sleep like a log. My health has never been better.
6) Oh, and ya,… I am reducing my CO2 foot print. Also reducing noise pollution, traffic congestion, normal pollution.
7) number six is just a pure accidental byproduct of me being cheap.
So Hail Satan and put the fun between your legs
Let’s ride
