Submitted a talk on OIDC to #DevfestLagos by @gdglagos, for this post I asked a fellow maintainer if I could share a screenshot from our discussion. His response? "Cool, but I'd rather not attract supply chain attackers" 😅 Honestly, that's the best justification for the talk.

I remember we were having a group conversation about attending physical tech events. One guy said he doesn’t see anything special in attending tech events that it’s just like listening to a podcast in person. I tried to make him see it differently but he just wouldn’t so I let him be. The point is, that’s what he believes and he’s not ready to change that belief. If he attends a tech event, he’ll go with that mindset and come back with nothing! Personally for me, getting out of my comfort zone to attend my first event which was DevFest Lagos 2023 changed a lot for me - from seeing people building amazing stuff, connecting, learning and just trying to have fun in their own way. Even though I ended up not networking or getting the best out of it, it was an eye opener for me. Guess who came back the following year for DevFestLagos 2024 as a Frontend Developer on the Digital Working Group? If I didn’t go in 2023 I wouldn’t have known anything about it. You see what I’m saying now, your mindset really matters. I went on to attend other events and even volunteer before DevFest Lagos 2024 and the experience was eye opening. If your mindset is limiting you from getting the change you want for yourself or achieving that big goal, you need to CHANGE our MINDSET! Moving into 2026 with mad audacity requires a certain level of mindset!💪🏾

DevFest Lagos was honestly one for the books, and we’re still soaking in all the moments. But we’re not done. Hear from our partners at @Bitnob_official, @btrustteam and @alat_ng as they share what DevFest Lagos 2025 meant to them, the products they’re building, and why they joined us this year. And with #DevFestLagos 2026 already on the horizon, let’s build something even bigger together. Let’s partner. 💙✨

Generic quote but did he lie? It made me realize how surface-level we can be when we don’t go deep into a domain. His session was elite. I lowkey want to be like him when I grow up lol. Met cool people, learned a lot, didn’t lose my phone this time lol🤧

Meetings like these are transformational. Sometimes, the catalyst you need is the mention of a word or just the right dose of motivation to rouse you up. Joining on the #DevFestLagos stage with amazing panelists, we were glad to share the prospects of opensource from the beginner lens or first-time contributors. Amongst many other points, the spotlight was also on paid opensource opportunities like Google Summer of Code (GSoC), Outreachy and the likes. It was a great time and we had a wonderful audience. PS: I attached an article in the comments that has more info about GSoC and Outreachy, if you are interested. #DevfestLagos25
Talking about getting involved in open source now or finding your way through global open source opportunities early in your career, join us on the 20th of November for DevFest Lagos as we discuss "Open Source as a Launchpad: How Global Programs Shape Tech Careers." ALSO, If you are interested in paid open source programs such as Google Summer of Code (GSoC), Outreachy, and others, along with tips and insights about accelerating your career with opensource from an amazing speaker lineup, you should definitely be part of this. As someone who has self-hosted virtual programs around Google Summer of Code and open source in general, I am excited about this one. Get your tickets: devfestlagos.com
