YTJN has, for the past three days, participated in a capacity-building session for members under the Tax Justice Alliance Uganda umbrella and key stakeholders to explore the real revenue potential of Uganda’s mining sector.
Represented by Programs Officer Mr. Jon Kafuko, YTJN;
✅examined the legal and regulatory gaps affecting revenue collection,
✅traced the collections and what has been lost from 2020/21 to 2024/25, and
✅assessed the true cost of tax expenditures granted to mining companies.
The gathering also focused on mineral beneficiation and value addition in line with the African Mining Vision and Uganda’s Ten-Fold Growth Strategy, because extraction without transformation does not build economies.
Tax justice in mining involves
#transparency,
#accountability, and optimizing domestic resources for development.
Young people need to understand the numbers. Youth must question the incentives. Youth should shape the policy conversation.
