I mean, yes, and no? At the time it was a cultural phenomenon. It was designed in a world before datamining, wowhead databases, and simcraft. But the way Vanilla is designed completely fell apart once those things were created. If we frame it purely in the context of its time it was damn near perfect. If we look at it objectively now that we can see everything under the hood, it's a very flawed game that actually completely breaks the moment people know how to actually play it.
