Defamation laws in Korea got to be one of the things that usually shock foreigners the most!
You can be sued for defamation even if what you said is 100% true. The law is focused on the damage to a person's or a business's reputation, not just the accuracy of the claim.
If you post a scathing, detailed review of a restaurant or a plastic surgery clinic and it "disparages" their reputation, they can file a criminal complaint against you. This is why you will often only read 5-star reviews on many local apps. Because locals don't want to risk being sued, they have developed a "review code."
If you see a 5-star review that only talks about the "convenient parking" or the "nice view" but completely ignores the food, that is a massive red flag. They are technically leaving a positive rating, but by staying silent on the quality of the meal, they are warning you to stay away.
Sometimes you gotta read between the lines.
