While millions around the globe are focused on the matches, @CambridgeUP has assembled a reading list for anyone interested in the stories behind the game — history, politics, culture, and economics included. Five books to read "beyond the pitch": cambridge.org/gb/universityp… Best to luck to all of the teams participating!

“Trust in science is not optional; it is the foundation for achieving our missions as societies, how we collectively advance health and well-being. We are honored to lead this work alongside our partners and start the process of engaging broader stakeholders to ensure all voices are at the table,” Tammy Hanna, PhD., Chief Publications Officer, BioCore BioCore and a coalition of scientific societies including @FASEBorg and @ASMicrobiology have announced the launch of the Trust Seal, a new community-led initiative intended to provide visible indicators of trustworthy publishing practices and research integrity. The effort brings together societies, publishers, and other stakeholders to develop a framework that recognizes publications that adopt agreed-upon best practices. The framework is currently under development, with a pilot anticipated in Fall 2026 and the first Trust Seals expected to be awarded in 2027. biocore.org/scientific-socie… #ScholComm #ResearchIntegrity #Trust #CommunityLed #StrongerTogether

A fan moment meeting @heatherstaines (Senior Consultant, @DeltaThink) at Charleston conference in Asia. I’ve found useful insights in @DeltaThink related to open acess trends. It was great to finally speak with her in person and learn more.

"This month we look at our latest data about Article Processing Charges (APCs). Per article pricing is a fundamental building block for all paid publishing models, so our review provides an invaluable insight into how costs of open access continue to evolve. APC prices in general continue to increase, but at a slower rate compared with this time last year. Important nuances in the distribution of prices continue to affect the value and cost of paid publishing models." | @DeltaThink | buff.ly/bZildgl

Boom! Reggie Raju of University of Cape Town: what if there is no money at all to relocate? APCs are catastrophic for Africa. Diamond #OpenAccess is not about funding, it is about principles, a disruptor of scholcomm.. #OASPA2024

But we have to make the labor “of love” that it often takes to run a diamond #OpenAccess journal visible and openly discuss how to transition to sustainable funding models. Keeping labor invisible hampers change. #OASPA2024

"If you change the context, you change the perception. You don't have to change the reality. I believe that 1) value is relative and subjective, and 2) persuasion is better than compulsion. …how many problems of life can be solved by tinkering with perception rather than that tedious, hardworking, and messy business of trying to change reality? Instead, governments try to solve their problems by compulsion. My view is that we should try and solve the problem by persuasion, and if that fails, we can try compulsion or harder-level nudging." - Rory Sutherland Image Credit: DeltaThink
