White German Chocolate Cake with Cheesecake Delight
Ingredients:
For the Cake:
1 cup (4 oz) German chocolate, chopped
½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
1 cup granulated sugar
½ cup brown sugar, packed
3 large eggs, separated
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
1 cup buttermilk
For the Cheesecake Center:
8 oz cream cheese, softened
¼ cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
For the Frosting:
½ cup (2 oz) German chocolate, chopped
¼ cup unsalted butter
1 cup powdered sugar
1 tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
Directions:
Prepare Cake Layers:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch pans.
In a saucepan, melt German chocolate and butter; cool.
In a bowl, beat sugars and egg yolks until fluffy. Add chocolate mixture and vanilla.
Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk to the batter.
Beat egg whites to stiff peaks; fold gently into batter.
Prepare Cheesecake Center:
6. Blend cream cheese, sugar, egg, and vanilla until smooth.
Assemble and Bake:
7. Layer batter and cheesecake mixture in pans. Bake for 30-35 mins. Cool layers.
Prepare Frosting:
8. Melt chocolate and butter. Cool. Blend powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and chocolate until smooth.
Frost and Serve:
9. Layer cakes, frost, and garnish. Serve chilled or at room temp.
