What a great way to start the day.
I had the pleasure of visiting Marsh Avenue Expeditionary Learning School (MAELS) in Staten Island to engage students in a discussion on "Global Citizenship and the Role of the United Nations."
The session formed part of the students' curriculum on global issues, diplomacy, international cooperation, and the work of the
@UN. Students in grades 7, 8, and 9 came exceptionally well prepared, demonstrating a strong understanding of contemporary global challenges and a genuine interest in international affairs.
We discussed the structure and functions of the
@UN, the role of its principal organs, and the work of the Permanent Mission of
#Eritrea to the UN. I was particularly impressed by the students' thoughtful questions about
#Eritrea, its history and culture, its development priorities, and its role within the
@UN. The exchange provided an opportunity to discuss
#Eritrea's commitment to
#multilateralism, the principles of the
@UN Charter, and the sovereign equality of states.
In keeping with the significance of the International Day of Dialogue among Civilizations, we also reflected on the importance of
#diplomacy, intercultural
#understanding, mutual respect, and constructive engagement among peoples and nations.
The visit complemented the objectives of the NYC Junior Ambassadors Program, an initiative of the Mayor's Office for International Affairs that promotes global awareness, leadership, and civic engagement among young New Yorkers.
My sincere thanks to the students, teachers, and staff of MAELS for their warm welcome, thoughtful engagement, and inspiring curiosity about the world around them. I also extend my appreciation to the Mayor's Office for International Affairs for organizing this valuable exchange and creating opportunities for young people to engage with the work of the
@UN and the international community.
The future of global citizenship is in good hands.
