But for Amanda Faulkner, a psychiatrist based in Napier, New Zealand, the Apple Watch Series 10 became much more than a digital companion โ it became a silent sentinel that helped save her life. According to an in-depth feature by The New Zealand Herald, Faulknerโs smartwatch alerted her to a series of abnormal health metrics that ultimately led to a life-saving diagnosis: Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, a rare and aggressive form of blood cancer.
Faulkner had recently upgraded to the Apple Watch Series 10, intrigued by the new Vitals app โ a tool designed to track a userโs overnight health metrics such as heart rate, respiratory rate, blood oxygen levels, and body temperature.
