Hyphenated domains circa 1990s.
Most in the domain world steer clear of expiring hyphenated domains. Why GoDaddy features domains with hyphens for new registration is an entire story of its own.
Let's take a look at two double hyphen (wow!) domains that expire next week (no bids).
get-on-line .com (30 years old)
dining-out-guide .com (28 years old)
The first (get-on-line) was registered in July of 1994.
Think about all the other domain combinations available at the time, and yet this was probably considered a good dot com choice.
The 2nd is dining-out-guide (another double hyphen), registered in 1996.
For comparison, DiningOut .com was registered in 1997, and DiningGuide .com in 1998. Today, both would be considered better options.
A wayback check on dining-out-guide shows it was once an online version of a print publication aptly titled Dining Out Guide. Makes sense and was probably considered a great fit in the 1990s.
Maybe next I'll share a triple hyphen domain (they do exist).
