You must be a complete retard to think that a full browser a faulty language (JavaScript) npm bloat full of security breaches is superior to Qt. The lack of lightweight apps is more a skill issue than lack of good platforms. Electron is a resource waste that makes computers need more RAM, SPACE, CPU AND GPU TIME leading to increased energy usage making computers more expensive to buy and to use, all that just to show you a gradient button moving forward on hover. Electron gained traction when web developers began creating desktop browser wrapped apps (CEF), the same kind of developers who can't tell a package.json from a shopping list. You could at least use Sciter without npm packages, you'll get same visual results without the heavy resource waste (single-threaded, 20-40mb ram, multiple renderers: direct2d, skia, cairo, gdi ), just a bit buggy here and there.

Fixing up WINE _IS_ porting to Linux There's no need for the "top layer" of code to be ported if the "bottom layer" can do the job just fine. WINE is like 90% there, it just needs a finished Direct2D layer (mostly). Demanding otherwise is pedantry that helps no one

I wouldn't say WINE is garbage. Their Direct2D implementation is definitely super incomplete though.

Yeah it's Direct2D. There hasn't been enough incentive/motivation for WINE to finish up their D2D stuff. Games don't really use it, AFAIK, esp. since it's not cross-platform.

Never happening. Direct2D is a fantastic graphics API. Paint.NET is a Windows app through-and-through and that will never change. WINE is what will power PDN on Linux/Mac/whatever. It is the only way to reach that.

BTW there is a (currently small) effort to get PDN working on WINE. I don't have the time (etc.) to contribute directly but I am actively responding to questions and providing any insights I think are useful. Maybe some other folks out there are interested in helping out?

Pure Win32. Modern Task manager uses mix of Win32 and WinUI2/Direct2D With modern D2D being a wrapper to D11 and D12 Btw, non of these are problems. On Linux, the whole compositor uses OpenGL or Vulkan. Unless you have Zero GPU, non of this matters.

I have recollections of Direct2D being an absolute pain in the ass to try to use, compared to SDL or even old GDI brushes and bit-blitting but that was at least a decade ago
looks like I was wrong, and this was very easily verifiable too. I'll do better in the future.

メモリフットプリントの話ではもはやなくなるが、曲線のレンダリングだとnv_path_renderingとSlug Libraryしか実装してない「本物の」GPUレンダラーじゃ無いと全然速くなくて、これに比べたらDirect2Dなんてカスです
